Shokugeki no Soma Recipe
One of my absolute favorites!!! It sure doesn't look at good as it should due to the red wine... but the taste more than makes up for it~ ^^
INGREDIENTS:
2 beef steak
2 medium onion
3 tbsp red wine
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp starch
salt & pepper
spring onion ganish
pickled sour plum
honey & mirin at a 1:1 ratio
- Make shallow cuts on both sides of the steak and pound with the back of the knife.
- Cover the steak completely in the chopped onion and leave for 30 minutes.
- Try to scrape as much of the onion off the steak as possible to prevent burning when cooking.
- Season the steak with salt and pepper.
- Use one tbsp of butter, and cook the onion until they are a nice golden brown color, this may take quite awhile.
- Use the second tbsp of butter and cook the steak to your preferred done-ness? =P
- When the steak is finished, take it out and without washing the pan, pour in the red wine.
- Put the caramelized onion back into the pan and let it soak up the wine.
- Add some soy sauce, cook for a bit and pour in the dissolved starch last.
- For the plum sauce, soak the pickled sour plum in some water first for around an hour.
- Boil until soft and remove the core.
- Chop up really finely and run it through a sieve if you prefer a finer texture.
- Add honey and mirin at a 1:1 ratio and it's done~
